Report brief
Two days ago, a sizable unknown enemy force arrived near an automated New Expansion mining system, overwhelming one patrolling Core Military ship. Two ships from the nearest Expanse Arm group responded to a call for backup, and were all reported as destroyed. The OTC calculates they used FTL travel. No attempt at communication was made prior, and the enemy ships had disappeared before any more information could be obtained. In response, Core Military is moving fleet-wide security to class A, and officially requesting procurement class B from the Core Worlds Government.

By Expanse Arm Defense Group coordinator

At 0304 UNT
on 3 Horizon 20260 AC
, the ship CM Torrure's Yield patrolling the C-23
system suddenly called for backup, with a report of "being ambushed" by "too many ships, big ones", along with telemetry reports of the targeting system being overwhelmed, unable to count them all. Neither the ship nor the nearest Universal Network relay reported any local non-network radio communication as an indication of any form of contact.
Minutes later, the Universal Network's space monitoring system sent Expanse Arm Group C a warning that it had detected a number of large ships dropping out of faster than light transit near the C-23
system. While FTL travel is obviously impossible, the location of Torrure's Yield and the report lined up, necessitating a stronger response.
By 0327
, two assault ships had been rallied and sent as backup, the CM Forward Thinker and the CM Living Hailstorm. After arriving at 0335
both ships reported finding the Torrure's Yield completely destroyed, no life signs remaining. No further reports were sent from either backup ship, and later their logs showed total integrity failure minutes after arriving.
A strategic meeting was held with Core Military leadership to determine next steps. While still deliberating, at 0356
the space monitoring system sent notification that another FTL jump of the same size had just departed the system.
At 0500
the scout ship CM Swift Light jumped far outside the C-23
system, and confirmed that no enemy forces remained, and that the Forward Thinker and Living Hailstorm had both been destroyed.
At 0730
a full force composed of five defense carriers arrived to perform cleanup procedure. No further contact was reported. Incident was marked as closed.
As of this report, the Core Military is officially switching Core-wide to security class A, and is also asking the government to switch to procurement class B with express approval of new defense contracts.

At 03:07 UNT
the local realspace Wash Monitoring Station NW-NEA-C2
confirmed the faster than light approach of a large mass, exiting near the NEA-C-23
system. As per the Core Alliance - OmniTech Coordination Treaty, this information was immediately dispatched to the nearest managing force to the system, Core Military Expanse Arm, Group C.
At 03:08 UNT
, all adjacent Wash and Relay stations began focusing primary cycles on monitoring this region. As per security protocols, the nearby Relay stations stopped transmitting their full-band Universal Network signals to improve monitoring quality, remaining in single-channel mode for safety.
Between 03:08 UNT
and 03:56 UNT
, no non-Military radio traffic was detected. All intercepted radio communication correlates with Core Military ship comms as written in the Core Military's report.
Best estimates assume the enemy fleet communicated internally using either point-to-point lasers, or a non-realspace communication model.
At 03:56 UNT
, the same Wash Monitoring Station determined equivalent mass had departed at faster than light, and the event was similarly reported to the local managing force.
Incident ends.
Errata: We have (somewhat expectedly) lost contact with an OTC civilian ship last seen in deep space at the same relative direction as the FTL entry/exit ray. This is not anticipated to be related, but is provided as part of the Coordination Treaty. Internal only: see documents

Two days ago, the Core Military encountered a large exo-Core military force in the C-23 frontier mining system. Three battlecruisers in the nearest defense group were sent to investigate, and sadly, all three were destroyed. Our ships reported being ambushed, and these aggressors did not appear to make any attempts to communicate.
For now, we are increasing our Core-wide defenses, but we have no other reason to cause alarm as these invaders were nowhere any of our populated planets. The risk to populated Core systems is low. We are planning a full investigation where we will find those that did this and bring them to justice in accordance with our laws.
Thank you.
